Posted August 08, 2018 05:18:17 A week after Trump tweeted that Fox News reporter Katie Courich was going to be arrested and deported, the president has again been forced to defend his comments.
“Katie Couric is a very good reporter,” Trump said on Tuesday, adding that he hopes she’s not going “to jail.”
The former host of “The View” said she was “just trying to be objective” in her reporting and that she did not intend to imply that Couric was a target.
“She’s a very smart woman,” Trump added.
“And she’s done a lot of great reporting.”
But after Couric appeared on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” on Wednesday, she took to Twitter to slam Trump.
“I hope Trump is not going back on the promises he made to @KatieCouric.
He has repeatedly and clearly made false statements about her,” Couric tweeted.
“The tweet was totally inappropriate and should not have been sent.”
“I am sure he will be happy to receive my apology,” she added.
